Welcome to my A – Z of Nutrition and ADHD series!
Over the course of these posts I’m hoping to raise awareness of the link between nutrition, lifestyle choices and ADHD symptoms.
X is for X-Factor (Personalised Nutrition in ADHD)
There’s no one-size-fits-all diet for ADHD — and that’s a good thing. Each person’s brain, body, and lifestyle is different. What works brilliantly for one individual may have little effect for another. That’s your X-factor.
ADHD management through nutrition is about:
- Understanding your own nutrient needs through testing, signs and symptoms
- Identifying sensitivities (e.g. gluten, dairy, additives)
- Tracking how foods impact your mood, focus, and energy
- Supporting co-occurring issues like anxiety, sleep problems, or sensory sensitivity
Some people thrive with more protein. Others need help with iron, omega-3s, or gut health. For many, food timing is just as important as food type.
Your X-factor is your body’s feedback — learn to listen, experiment gently, and work with professionals to personalise your approach.
What’s been a game-changer for you or your child in eating for ADHD?
