Do I have to have an ADHD diagnosis to work with you?
Absolutely not. I’m happy to work with you if you have recognised that you have ADHD and you would like help to manage your symptoms.
I can’t afford coaching at the moment. Is there any way of getting funding to pay for sessions?
You can apply for Access to Work a government grant to help you realise your potential at work. You will be assessed and one of the things that it can be used for is ADHD Coaching. There is a long waiting time from applying to assessment. In my personal experience it is at least 8 months.
Can we meet in-person?
I tend to work with ADHD clients online, but if you would prefer face to face appointments, I see clients in-person on Tuesdays at Bridge to Health in West Ealing.
How much notice do I need to give to reschedule an appointment?
At least 24 hours. On the portal that I use, which you will be invited to join when we start working together you can reschedule your appointment if necessary. If you provide less than 24 hours’ notice then I may have to charge you. This will be at my discretion.
Can you help diagnose me?
No, I am not a psychiatrist so I am unable to give you any formal diagnosis of ADHD. I am here to coach you and help you feel understood, heard and supported. However I do have experience of navigating diagnosis both for myself and my son, so I may be able to offer you some help in determining how to get a diagnosis.
Are our chats confidential?
Anything we discuss will not be shared with anyone else. I provide a safe and judgment free environment in every session.
What’s the difference between ADHD coaching and therapy?
ADHD coaching and therapy differ in focus and approach. ADHD coaching is goal-oriented and centres on practical strategies to help clients manage their ADHD-related challenges in daily life, such as improving organisation, time management, and achieving personal or professional goals. Coaches work collaboratively with clients to build routines and skills for better functioning.
Therapy, on the other hand, often explores emotional and psychological aspects of ADHD, addressing underlying issues like anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and trauma. Therapists are licensed mental health professionals who can provide clinical treatment, which may include behavioural therapy, cognitive restructuring, and emotional support.
While therapy is more about healing and understanding emotional health, ADHD coaching is more about planning, accountability, and action-oriented solutions for managing ADHD symptoms.
What are some expected outcomes of ADHD Coaching?
While outcomes vary from person to person, here are some improvements you might experience:
- More self-care and self-compassion. A better understanding of how your brain works and how to work with it rather than against it.
- More consistent use of effective routines, strategies and structure in work and home-life
- Improved ability to focus, to start tasks without procrastinating and to complete tasks in a timely manner
- Better ability to prevent and manage overwhelm, ADHD paralysis and emotional dysregulation.
What happens during an ADHD coaching session?
A typical ADHD coaching session consists of the following:
- Asking you for a quick win from the last 7 days. I think it’s so important to start on a positive note
- Checking in to see how you did with the previous weeks action items and if anything came up for you that you want to work on
- Deciding what to focus on and what outcome to work toward in your session that day
- Coaching to increase awareness or understanding, identify and shift limiting beliefs, unmet needs or other barriers to progress, learn new skills, anchor new insights, develop new strategies or create new structure to support you. The sessions are always led by your needs and what you want to get out of it, with gentle encouragement from me.
- Setting some goals and intentions for the week ahead that feel realistic and manageable.
