“This was a great course! Like most people, I signed up looking for weight loss. I’m not someone who habitually diets. I didn’t want to get into something that was short-term results for longer-term increased weight gain. I hate being hungry or obsessing about food and I wanted something that was liveable with – my husband is a great cook an most of our social / leisure time revolves around food & wine. I knew people considerete low GL diets generally as one of the more healthy options. Yet I’d seen it work well for a friend of mine so I took the plunge.
The concept behind the diet element is pretty simple. Limit your carbs, and make sure the carbs you do eat are slow releasing. So, you release energy gradually but consistently over the day. In this way, you don’t keep triggering your insulin response with energy highs followed by lows and your body storing the excess as fat.
Applying it in practice so that it worked for me and my lifestyle was somewhat harder. This is where the weekly sessions really helped. In addition to measuring weight & body fat percentage (the info stays between you and Emily – no naming and shaming or pressure to share), there are sessions covering items like eating out, drinking, snacks, identifying triggers, food intolerances etc. They also give an opportunity to ask Emily specific questions or plan for specific events.
The upshot of the 10 weeks for me was that I hit my [albeit rather modest] weight loss goals and as an added bonus it came mainly from fat loss, so hips, thighs and belly – yay! and I’m still losing – double yay!!. But from early on, I got some unexpected and welcome benefits: my sleep patterns improved and my digestion has speeded up. My energy levels are better which has made getting through the day easier and more fun, and generally, I feel much more like my old self.
